Are Chommies Poo Bags really biodegradable?
Yes.
Chommies Poo Bags are TÜV AUSTRIA OK Compost HOME certified, which means they have been independently tested and certified as home compostable. Under the right composting conditions, the material biodegrades into CO₂, water and biomass, rather than simply breaking down into smaller pieces of plastic.
Small bag. Quite a lot going on.
What are Chommies Poo Bags made from?
They’re made from a bio-resin blend of PBAT, PLA and corn starch, designed to biodegrade under composting conditions.
We’ve thought about the illustrations, too. They’re printed using water-based, low-heavy-metal flexographic ink.
How should I dispose of a Chommies Poo Bag?
The bag itself is certified for home composting, but remember that once it contains dog poo, you need to think about the waste inside it too.
If you have a dedicated home composting system suitable for pet waste, the bag can be composted there. Dog waste should not be added to compost that will later be used on edible plants or food gardens.
Otherwise, tie the bag and dispose of it with your general household waste according to your local waste guidelines. The important difference is that the bag has been designed and independently certified to biodegrade under appropriate composting conditions.
