When it comes to sizing, our adjustable collars with colourful whipping come in Small to Large and are best suited to medium and larger breeds. If you have a tiny or miniature breed, our plain rope adjustable collars, available from XXS to XXL, are the better fit, offering the same Chommies quality across wider size range.

Slip-On Dog Collar: built for dogs who love to move. Ideal for energetic dogs that tend to slip out of traditional collars, the sporty lightweight design is made for adventure and holds up well in water. The choker-style loop slips over your dog's head and creates a secure tightening fit when pulled on a leash. Please note that Slip-On Collars are custom-made to your dog's neck size and cannot be returned or exchanged, so be sure to measure carefully before ordering. Sighthound Dog Collar: made for the elegant ones. Designed specifically for Whippets, Greyhounds, and Italian Greyhounds, this adjustable leather collar is crafted in our Cape Town studio using sustainably sourced South African leather, finished with solid brass hardware and our signature eye-popping colours.

Everyday Dog Leash: the one every dog owner needs. A reliable staple for dogs of all sizes and temperaments, it's perfect for walks around town, up the mountain, or a relaxed coffee stop, keeping your dog safely by your side wherever the day takes you.

Slip-On Dog Leash: for quick outings made easy. Simply loop it over your dog's head, adjust the leather tabs, and you have a lightweight 2-in-1 collar and leash in seconds. Ideal for those times when you just want to pop out without the fuss of clipping on a separate collar. This leash is also a great option for dog trainining purposes.

Hands-Free Leash: the most versatile leash in the range. Sling it across your body or around your waist and go. Perfect for managing boisterous dogs using your body weight, leisurely strolls with calmer dogs, or walking two dogs at once, all with your hands completely free.

Puppy & Miniature Dog Leash: light, gentle, and perfectly sized. Our smallest leash, designed for puppies and miniature breeds. The snap-hook clip is lighter than our Mini size, making it a comfortable and proportionate choice for tiny dogs just starting out on their walking journey.

A note on sizing: select leashes are available in two thicknesses, with the smaller versions made from thinner rope, fitted with lighter hardware, whereas the Standard Leash has thicker rope with larger fittings, ensuring the leash is always proportionate to your dog's size and strength.

When choosing between a collar or a harness, both serve different purposes and many dog owners use both. Collars are great for everyday ID tag wearing and dogs that walk calmly on a lead. Harnesses distribute pressure more evenly across the body and are better suited for dogs that pull, have neck sensitivities, or are brachycephalic breeds (like French Bulldogs and Pugs). Chommies offers harnesses in a range of sizes, come in for an in-store fitting or consult our sizing guide online.

Sizing varies by product and breed. We recommend measuring your dog's neck (for collars) or neck and chest (for harnesses) with a soft tape measure before ordering. As handcrafted pieces, your Chommies products will reward a little care and attention. Here's a quick guide by material type:

Leather items (collars, leashes, harnesses): Spot clean only using a damp cloth. Keep dry and condition occasionally with a leather balm to maintain suppleness, you can use the Chommies leather care balm for this. Avoid soaking or machine washing.

Rope items: Gently hand-wash in cold water with a mild detergent and air dry flat. For rope items without leather components, such as our Slip-On Collars, you can also place them in a laundry bag for a cool machine wash. If your rope item has been exposed to salt water, rinse it thoroughly with fresh water as soon as possible to prevent damage. Please check regularly for signs of wear. Note that collars with colourful whipping may cause mild colour transfer with prolonged water exposure.

Mixed materials: Treat each section according to its material, handle leather gently and care for rope sections as above.

Brass hardware: Polish sparingly and keep away from coloured rope or leather to avoid staining.

Our products come with a 6-month warranty on manufacturing defects from the date of purchase, provided you have your invoice or original receipt as proof of purchase. If you discover a manufacturing defect within this period, which can happen as all our products are handmade, we will assess your claim and arrange a repair at no charge to you.

Please note that damage falling outside of warranty coverage, such as chewing, accidental damage, or general wear and tear, will not be covered. However, our team will happily assess the item and if repair is feasible we'll provide you with a quote before any repair work is carried out.

Most of our fixtures are made of uncoated solid brass, so they age naturally and consistently, the way many brass items age. A little polishing wax with a soft cloth once in a while will remove the patina and restore its original luster. Because brass is a soft metal, it scratches easily; this tells a story and makes it authentic.

We made a deliberate change to the leather we use across our range, and we think it's one worth explaining.

Our previous leather had a very light surface finish, which meant significant natural variation between hides - including scarring, inconsistent texture, and mixed origins. While that had a certain raw character, it also created challenges around colour consistency, durability, and traceability that didn't sit well with our standards.

We now source our leather exclusively from a local LWG Gold-rated tannery (the Leather Working Group is an internationally recognised body that audits tanneries for environmental and ethical compliance). This means every hide we use is fully traceable, produced to a consistent quality standard, and finished with a protective coating that holds colour better and stands up more reliably to the demands of an active pet's life.

It's a change we're proud of, better for the environment, better for traceability, and better for your dog. At Chommies we are continuously reviewing the materials we use across our range, always looking for ways to improve on quality, sustainability, and ethical sourcing. We offer free ground shipping on domestic orders over R1,900 (one thousand nine hundred Rand), and free shipping for international orders over £200 (two hundred pounds). Alternatively, shipping is calculated automatically at checkout based on your shipping address and order size.

When placing an international order, estimated import duties and taxes are included in the delivery fee where applicable.
However, if your order qualifies for free shipping, import duties and taxes may not included in the delivery fee. In such cases, the recipient is solely responsible for the payment of any applicable customs duties, taxes, or clearance charges required by the destination country.

These charges are determined by local customs authorities and are outside of our control. Payment will be requested directly by the courier or customs authority prior to delivery. Failure to settle these charges may result in delivery delays, return of the shipment, or additional costs, for which we cannot be held liable.

Yes, we offer returns and exchanges of items bought at one of our official Chommies stores (this excludes stockists). Orders that require a return or exchange due to a change of mind or incorrectly ordered products must be returned to our concept store within 14 days of the date of purchase.

All returns or exchanges must be accompanied by a valid proof of purchase. This includes your invoice number, date of purchase, and item details. Without this information, we are unable to process any return or exchange.

We offer a 6-month product warranty on our products from the date of purchase. If you discover a manufacturing defect (which can happen as all of our products are handmade) within the 6-month period, we will happily repair your product upon assessment by our production team.
